Neetu David Joins UP Warriorz as Head of Scouting Ahead of WPL 2027

The former India spinner Neetu David has been appointed as head of scouting for UP Warriorz ahead of the Women’s Premier League 2027 season.

The 48-year old former Railways player will take over from Rajib Dutta and will be part of the support staff led by head coach Abhishek Nayar, who took over as the head coach of the franchise last season.

Neetu David has featured in 10 tests and 97 ODIs in her international career spanning over 13 years. She has picked 182 wickets and holds the record for the best bowling figures in an innings in women’s test, having claimed 8/53 against West Indies in the 1995 Jamshedpur Test. Neetu David was also inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2024.

She also previously served as the chairperson of the selection panel for the Indian women’s national team. Taking over responsibility at UP Warriorz, will be expecting emerging talent from the evolving domestic women’s cricket ecosystem.

UP Warriorz has played a key role in WPL history. Despite having only 12 wins out of 33 games, they reached the playoffs in their maiden season. UPW have ended their campaigns in the group stages in each of the next three seasons, finishing at the bottom of the past two seasons, after finishing fourth in 2024.

Speaking at her appointment, Neetu David said, “I am delighted to join UP Warriorz as Chief Scout. Having spent too many years playing and working within India Women’s cricket, I have seen the tremendous amount of talent that exists across the country.

“For me, scouting is not only about identifying performances, but also recognising potential and understanding what a player can become with the right performances and environment.

“I look forward to working with UP Warriorz to identify exciting young cricketers and contribute towards building a strong talent pipeline for the franchise,” said Neetu David in a statement.
