New Delhi: The search and rescue operation continues in Nepal after devastating flash floods near the Nepal-Tibet border, with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirming that 275 Indian nationals are still missing.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday that India remains in constant contact with the Nepalese government and is supporting ongoing rescue efforts.
“According to our information, 275 Indian nationals remain missing. We continue to be in close touch with the Nepali government,” Jaiswal said.
He added that 166 Indian nationals have been rescued, while 1,907 Indians have safely crossed into Nepal from China.
India Sends Relief Material and Rescue Teams to Nepal
India has stepped up humanitarian assistance following the flood disaster. The MEA said that around 95 tonnes of relief material have already been delivered to Nepal through seven aircraft.
Along with supplies, India has deployed 54 personnel to assist Nepal's rescue operations. The team includes:
- 30 tunnel rescue experts
- 19 forensic specialists
- A five-member medical team
Indian rescue and forensic teams are working closely with Nepalese authorities on the ground.
The MEA also said that additional support, including forensic kits, Bailey bridges and other essential equipment, will be provided based on Nepal's requirements.
Climate Compensation Debate: MEA Backs Greater Role for Developed Nations
Amid Nepal's push for climate-related compensation after the deadly floods, India said developed countries must take greater responsibility in addressing climate change.
MEA stated that climate action should follow the principle of “common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities.”
The ministry said countries that have historically contributed more to greenhouse gas emissions should lead efforts to reduce emissions and provide financial and technological support to developing nations.

The flash floods have caused widespread destruction in affected areas, triggering rescue operations and international support efforts.
With hundreds still missing, authorities continue to search for survivors while assessing the full scale of damage caused by the disaster.
