Violence has once again flared up in the south-eastern part of Nepal. A 19-year-old youth died during a clash in Siraha district, after which seeing the situation worsening, the administration has imposed curfew in three districts bordering India. This tension, which started between two groups in eastern Nepal, is now spreading rapidly in the surrounding areas.

According to news agency ANI, in view of the tension, curfew has been imposed in Janakpur, Siraha and Saptari districts. The youth who lost his life in the clash has been identified as 19-year-old Ganesh Yadav, resident of Siraha. Many people were seriously injured in the firing by the police during the demonstration. Social media and local reports show injured protesters on the streets.

This disturbance started from Kaptanganj area of ​​Devanganj Rural Municipality of Sunsari district on Sunday night, which gradually spread to the entire Madhesh state and large-scale vandalism started.

11 motorcycles set on fire in Golbazar

According to local reports, angry protesters set fire to 11 motorcycles parked at a public place in Siraha's Golbazar. Immediately after the incident of arson and vandalism, the local administration announced curfew in Golbazar to prevent the situation from getting out of control.

On the other hand, the atmosphere in Janakpur, the capital of Madhesh state, also remains quite tense. Keeping security in mind, the District Administration Office has imposed indefinite curfew in Janakpur and surrounding areas from 3:30 pm.

In which areas is the restriction applicable?

According to the order issued by Chief District Officer (CDO) Prem Prasad Luitel, the curfew has become effective from 3:30 pm on Thursday. Its scope includes the entire Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan Municipality area, Lakshminiya Rural Municipality and Nagarain Municipality.

The administration is trying to calm down the violence that broke out between the two communities, but the tension has spread from Sunsari to Saptari, Siraha and the provincial capital Janakpur. There have also been reports of protests from Lahan of Siraha, where people from both sides came out on the streets. To disperse the crowd and control the situation, the police had to use tear gas shells and also fired in the air.
