New impetus to dairy sector through ‘Operation-4’ in UP: Up to 50 percent subsidy on indigenous cow rearing
Lucknow, Read On the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government has prepared a big master plan for the conservation of indigenous cows and strengthening the dairy sector. The government has implemented four ambitious schemes under “Operation-4”, through which preparations are being made to give new strength to the rural economy, milk production and self-employment.
The core of this strategy of the government includes Chief Minister Swadeshi Cow Promotion Scheme, Chief Minister Progressive Animal Husbandry Promotion Scheme, Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana and Mini Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana. Under these schemes, grants of up to lakhs of rupees are being given to dairy units ranging from two cows to 25 cows.
Additional Chief Secretary of Animal Husbandry Department, Mukesh Meshram said that the government is giving subsidy up to 50 percent to promote indigenous breed of cows which give high quality and more milk. The financial model of the scheme provides for 15 percent beneficiary investment, 35 percent bank loan and 50 percent government grant.
Under the Chief Minister Swadeshi Cow Promotion Scheme, a maximum grant of up to Rs 80 thousand is being given on a unit of two cows. Under the Chief Minister Progressive Animal Husbandry Incentive Scheme, an incentive amount of Rs 10,000 to 15,000 is being given to the cattle rearers rearing better breed cows. The special focus of the government is on the conservation and promotion of Gir Cow, Sahiwal Cow, Gangatiri Cow and Sindhi breed of cows. The government believes that along with increasing milk production through these breeds, new employment opportunities will also be created in rural areas. The state government is also working rapidly on the strategy of making women and youth self-reliant by connecting them with the dairy sector. Emphasis is being laid on increasing self-employment and rural income through expansion of dairy network in villages.
According to the Animal Husbandry Department, the effect of the schemes is now visible on the ground. More than one and a half thousand units have been established under the Chief Minister Swadeshi Cow Promotion Scheme. More than seven and a quarter thousand awards have been distributed under the Chief Minister Progressive Animal Husbandry Promotion Scheme. Whereas 72 dairy units have been established under Nandini Krishak Samridhi Yojana and 245 dairy units under Mini Nandini Yojana.
