The ED investigation revealed that Ashok Kharat and his associates threatened visitors with illness, financial, and family problems. Visitors were told that they were facing difficulties due to planetary influences and negative forces. After this, Ashok Kharat and his team would persuade them to pay for expensive rituals, special prayers, and sacred objects. The large sums collected in this manner were transferred through multiple bank accounts. Ashok Kharat attempted to conceal the source of the funds.
The ED learned that the honey sold for ₹7 lakh was claimed to be extremely rare, medicinal, and possessing spiritual powers. It was claimed that consuming it daily would cure even serious illnesses. Rajendra Nanasaheb Bhagwat, one of Ashok Kharat’s victims, stated that he had met him due to family problems and business losses. Bhagwat told the ED that Ashok Kharat had mentioned a serious planetary defect and threatened that if immediate action was not taken, the family could be completely ruined. He then advised performing a special puja and purchasing diamond and topaz rings. He then sold the rings, which were studded with fake diamonds and topaz, for ₹2.62 lakh. Ashok Kharat was arrested a few months ago and was also accused of having an affair with a female leader.
