New UK PM: Andy Burnham will become the new Prime Minister of Britain without general elections, support of 349 MPs

New UK PM Labor Party: Labor Party leader Andy Burnham is now officially going to become the new Prime Minister of Britain without any general election. This is being completely considered a very important and major change in the political history of the country. No new general elections have been held here at all, nor has any common citizen cast his vote in it. Nevertheless, through the internal leadership elections of the party, this big country has got a new and strong Prime Minister.

Former Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham will formally take over his most important post as Britain’s new Prime Minister on Monday. He is going to replace the current Prime Minister Kier Starmer, who had made a big announcement of his resignation last month. In the internal elections of the Labor Party, Andy Burnham stood alone as the only and strongest candidate. He has received the overwhelming and clear support of 349 MPs out of the total 401 MPs of his Labor Party.

Starmer’s formal resignation

Current Prime Minister Kier Starmer will first hold an important meeting with King Charles III on Monday and submit his formal resignation to him. Soon after, new leader Andy Burnham will go straight to Buckingham Palace and meet to form a new government. There the King will officially invite him to form a new government, after which he will become the 59th Prime Minister of Britain. Then he will reach 10 Downing Street and give his first and most important address to the nation directly from there.

Main reason for resignation

Kier Starmer had made a very big and sudden announcement of his resignation from his post in the month of June this year. During his tenure, many big and serious political controversies came to light in the country with great speed. The appointment of a man linked to Jeffrey Epstein as Britain’s ambassador to the US has come under heavy criticism. Apart from this, the pressure on the Labor Party had increased considerably due to the poor performance of the Labor Party in the local body elections in May.

Britain’s parliamentary system

In the current parliamentary system of Britain, the general public does not directly elect the new Prime Minister of the country. During general elections, the people of the country elect only their local MPs and send them to represent themselves in the Parliament. Whichever political party gets a clear majority in the Parliament, the elected leader of that party becomes the new Prime Minister of the country. If the party changes its leader during the tenure, then that leader directly becomes the Prime Minister without general elections.

Seventh such Prime Minister

The interesting thing is that in the last decade, most of the British Prime Ministers have reached the pinnacle of power in a similar manner. Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak also came to this big post through change of party leadership. Now Andy Burnham of the Labor Party will also become the seventh such Prime Minister of the country to join this long list. This shows that it is not at all necessary to hold general elections every time to change the government in Britain.
