New Delhi. The world has not yet completely recovered from the threat of Hanta Virus and scientists have increased the concern of Global Health Agencies by identifying a new group of Corona virus. In a recent research conducted by scientists from Japan and Thailand, new corona viruses have been found in bats, which are suspected to have the ability to infect humans.
This research has been done jointly by scientists from The University of Tokyo and Chulalongkorn University. The results of the research were published in the prestigious scientific journal Cell on 6 May 2026.
New group of corona virus found in bats
Scientists identified a new group of coronaviruses in samples of horseshoe bats living in Thailand’s Chachoengsao province. The research team has named it “Clade B”.
According to researchers, this new virus group is very similar to the virus that causes SARS-CoV-2 i.e. Covid-19. The biggest concern is that Clade B viruses can use the same receptor used by the Covid-19 virus to enter human cells.
Concern over ability to infect humans
According to scientists, this new virus can use the angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE2) receptor. This receptor helped the Covid-19 virus to spread infection in the human body.
However, scientists have not yet said clearly whether this virus has started spreading directly among humans or it will cause a new epidemic. At present, this research is considered important in terms of possible danger and future preparations.
What is the relation with Covid-19?
Experts say that bats have long been considered the natural host of corona virus. After the Covid-19 pandemic, research on viruses found in bats has intensified across the world. The purpose of this new study was to understand which viruses can reach humans in the future and take the form of an epidemic.
Hanta virus also increased concern
Meanwhile, cases of Hantavirus infection are also raising concerns in many parts of the world. This virus spreads mainly through contact with feces, urine, and saliva of infected rats. According to the World Health Organization, infected particles can enter the human body through inhalation of air.
The symptoms of Hantavirus can be severe and in many cases it can even prove fatal. However, it is not considered a fast-spreading virus like Covid-19.

Experts say that the discovery of a new virus does not mean that a new epidemic is going to happen immediately. But this research definitely indicates to the world to be alert and prepared for possible future threats. Scientists are constantly monitoring these viruses so that any possible infection can be stopped at an early stage.
