TMC MLA Saukat Molla Arrested: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Shaukat Mollah in the bomb blast case that took place before the assembly elections in Bhangar, South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. After his arrest on Friday night, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had recovered a mobile phone and a pen drive from the possession of Shaukat Mollah. The court also approved the NIA’s petition to conduct forensic investigation of these two electronic devices.

Three accused are already in police custody

NIA has already arrested three people in this case. Two of these accused are in judicial custody, while one accused is still in NIA custody. The court has also given permission for forensic examination of the electronic devices recovered from these accused.

Fear of tampering with evidence

During the appearance in the NIA court, Shaukat Mollah’s lawyer demanded his bail. However, this was strongly opposed by the NIA. The agency argued that Shaukat Mollah, being a former MLA in the area, is a very influential person. If they get bail, they can tamper with the evidence and try to influence witnesses.

Shaukat Mollah was in contact with the accused

The defense claimed that Shaukat Mollah was provided Z category security by the previous state government. Therefore, it is not possible for him to be involved in this bomb blast. So in response to this, NIA while presenting its point before the court said that after the blast, Shaukat Mollah was in constant touch with all the other accused and was giving instructions to them.

Judicial custody of the accused for 14 days

After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court accepted the demand of NIA and ordered Shaukat Mollah to be sent to judicial custody for 14 days. According to the NIA, on Friday Shaukat Mollah was trying to flee to Bangladesh through the coastal border area of ​​South 24 Parganas district.

Local villagers saw him in Chunakhali area adjacent to the border and chased him, but he managed to escape from there. After this, NIA started strict surveillance in the area.
