Nicholas Hoult to play Gilderoy Lockhart in ‘Harry Potter’ series

British actor Nicholas Hoult is the newest addition to the highly anticipated HBO’s Harry Potter series.

The 36-year-old stars as the professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts in the second season of the series.

The role was previously played by Kenneth Branagh in the 2002 movie adaptation of the second HP book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

The news was announced by HBO Max on August 11 in an Instagram post.

The season one of the series is scheduled to drop this year on Christmas, marking the beginning of a new era.

The show stars John Lithgow as Professor Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall and Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy.

The iconic golden trio of Harry, Ron and Hermione will be played by Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton, respectively.

Meanwhile, Nicholas has had a prolific career with acting credits such as starring as Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman and Thomas Hutter in Nosferatu.

The season 2 of the series will release in late 2027.
