Big controversy in Women's Asia Cup semi-finals, Nigar did not shake hands with Harmanpreet

Delhi: Under the Women's Asia Cup 2026, an incident has caught everyone's attention before the semi-final played between India and Bangladesh. After the toss, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana did not shake hands with Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur. The reason behind this behavior is not yet clear.

BCB distanced itself from the decision

Giving clarification on this matter, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said that Nigar Sultana was not given any instructions by the board to do so. According to Rafiqul Islam Babu, president of the women's committee, this was a personal decision of the captain. He said that the board believes in promoting better relations between countries through sports and wants good relations with all cricket playing countries including India.

India made it to the finals

Talking about the match, the Indian team performed brilliantly and defeated Bangladesh by 40 runs. Batting first, India scored 149 runs losing six wickets in 20 overs. Shefali Verma was India's most successful batsman. He played an excellent inning of 64 runs in 44 balls.

Bangladesh's innings was weak

Bangladesh team, which came to chase the target, could not play openly in front of the Indian bowlers. The entire team was able to score only 109 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. For India, Deepti Sharma bowled effectively and took three wickets. With this victory, India booked its ticket to the final, while Bangladesh's journey in the tournament once again ended in the semi-finals.
