Nemmali Mining Pvt. Ltd. (NMPL) has launched Zero Crystalline Silica™ Surface Technology, which it describes as India’s first solution of its kind for the engineered stone industry.
The company said the technology eliminates crystalline silica from engineered surface materials, addressing growing concerns over worker safety while offering manufacturers a sustainable alternative to conventional quartz-based products.
The launch comes as regulators worldwide tighten workplace safety standards around exposure to respirable crystalline silica during cutting, polishing, fabrication and installation of engineered stone surfaces.
Developed Through an Advanced Upcycling Process
NMPL said the technology converts high-purity silica into next-generation engineered stone raw materials using an advanced upcycling process.
According to the company, the process reduces dependence on natural quartz mining, lowers industrial waste and supports circular economy principles by transforming recycled materials into premium engineered surfaces without compromising durability or aesthetics.
The company added that the material has been designed to reduce health risks associated with crystalline silica exposure while remaining commercially viable for manufacturers.

Independent Testing Confirms Material Composition
NMPL said independent testing has validated the technology’s composition.
According to the company, X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the absence of crystalline silica, while SGS verified the material’s chemical composition through X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis.
These assessments, the company said, demonstrate that the material contains silica but does not include crystalline silica.

Industry Responds to Tightening Global Regulations
The announcement comes as governments introduce stricter regulations on crystalline silica exposure.
Australia has already banned engineered stone containing crystalline silica. Regulators in the United States and Europe are also strengthening workplace safety standards and evaluating further restrictions.
India remains one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of engineered stone. The company believes the new technology could help domestic manufacturers meet evolving international compliance requirements while strengthening their competitiveness in export markets.

According to industry estimates cited by NMPL, the global engineered stone market is valued at more than USD 25 billion. Demand continues to grow across residential, commercial and hospitality projects, supported by increasing preference for durable and sustainable surface materials.
