With the help of that feature offline transactions can be done effortlessly.
How will this transaction be done? Users are said to be able to transact at offline merchant terminals through ‘near-field communication’ technology. It is a type of short-range wireless technology. Which is faster and more secure than Bluetooth at close range. However, it has been reported that a maximum limit of Rs 2,000 will be set for transactions in this method. And that’s why first you have to deposit money in a digital wallet called ‘UPI Lite’ on the device. They can use that balance to send money without any UPI PIN even in places without internet connection or offline terminals.
It is good to say that even earlier money could be sent with the help of UPI without internet. By dialing *99# or using services like UPI 123Pay. But that was a very limited approach. Even today’s offline methods require some form of network. But with the new UPI feature, that might not be necessary either.

This innovative technology developed by India is currently being used by many countries of the world. Ahen UPI has been recognized by International Monetary Fund (IMF).
