Sadar Bazaar is one of the largest and busiest wholesale markets in the country, visited by thousands of traders and buyers daily. From here a large quantity of goods are supplied to different states of the country. In such a situation, the news of shifting of the market had created many apprehensions in the business world.

During this, the traders presented before him the situation of concern and confusion arising from the discussions about shifting of the market. He told the Chief Minister that for some time now discussions about shifting of Sadar Bazaar to another place are spreading rapidly. On this, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured the traders that there is no proposal or plan to shift Sadar Bazaar at the level of Delhi Government. He said that the aim of the government is not to remove the market, but to develop it with necessary facilities while preserving its historical identity and heritage.
At the same time, President of Federation of Sadar Bazaar Traders Association (FESTA) Rakesh Kumar Yadav said that in the meeting held with the Chief Minister, not only the shifting discussions were discussed, but the age-old problems of the market were also raised prominently. He said that the traders discussed in detail the problems related to waterlogging, traffic jams, encroachment, electricity system and old infrastructure of the market. Taking these issues seriously, the Chief Minister assured that an action plan will be prepared to resolve them by coordinating with the concerned departments.
Preparation of underground wiring and new drainage system
President of Federation of Sadar Bazaar Traders Association (FESTA) Rakesh Kumar Yadav said that the problem of electricity system and drainage was one of the major issues in the meeting with the Chief Minister. Traders said that the network of electrical wires spread in the market has many times become the cause of fire incidents, due to which the traders have to suffer huge financial losses. On this, the Chief Minister indicated to soon start the process towards making the electric wires underground in the market. This will help in reducing the risk of incidents like fire and making the power system more safe and organized. The issue of waterlogging during rains was also raised prominently in the meeting. Traders said that water logging in every monsoon affects business and also leads to loss of goods. On this, the Chief Minister talked about getting a technical assessment of the drainage system from Bada Hindurao to Teliwada, so that a permanent solution to the drainage problem can be prepared.
Asked for development blueprint from businessmen
Keeping in mind the actual needs of the market, the merchant organizations themselves should prepare a detailed blueprint of development and beautification, so that the work can be done in a planned manner. The Chief Minister told the traders that the major problems of the market should be given priority in the proposal. This should include issues like waterlogging, traffic jams, illegal encroachment, undergrounding of electrical network, adequate toilets for women, cleanliness arrangements and modernization of old infrastructure. He said that if the development works are done in a planned manner and in a phased manner, then the business activities of the market will not be affected and extensive improvement in the basic facilities will also be possible. The Chief Minister assured that based on the needs and suggestions of the traders, an action plan will be prepared in coordination with the concerned departments. With this, modern facilities can be developed while preserving the historical identity and heritage of Sadar Bazaar.
