Tezzbuzz Desk – The Supreme Court has given relief to Noida DM Medha Rupam in the case related to the protest by Noida workers. The court has currently stayed the order of Allahabad High Court to give compensation of Rs 5 lakh from his salary. Additionally, the Supreme Court has also put an interim stay on some parts of the High Court's decision canceling the detention of student Aakriti Choudhary under the National Security Act i.e. NSA.
In fact, after the workers' protest in Noida, the case regarding imposition of NSA against DU student Aakriti Choudhary had reached Allahabad High Court. On September 2, the High Court had canceled Akriti Choudhary's detention under NSA. Also, the court had made strong remarks against Noida DM Medha Rupam and ordered a compensation of Rs 5 lakh from her salary.
After this, Medha Rupam and the Uttar Pradesh government challenged the High Court's decision in the Supreme Court. During the hearing of the case on Wednesday, the Supreme Court ordered to continue the interim stay on the operation of paragraphs 27 to 33 of the High Court decision. These paragraphs include comments against the DM and orders related to compensation.
Aakriti Choudhary is accused of inciting violence after the protests in Noida on 13 April. In this demonstration, the workers were demanding increase in wages. However, the lawyer appearing for Aakriti raised questions on the basis of her detention in the Supreme Court, saying that she was in police custody even before the violence took place.
During the hearing, Medha Rupam's lawyer argued that the High Court has the power to cancel any order, but it cannot single out a particular government official and criticize him. At the same time, Akriti Chaudhary's lawyer challenged her custody and presented arguments in his favor.
The Supreme Court has directed to issue notice in the case. The parties concerned have been given two weeks to file their replies. The court said that the interim stay on paragraphs 27 to 33 of the Allahabad High Court judgment dated September 2, 2026 will continue till the next hearing.
Now the next hearing of this case will be on October 7.
