Now ‘Conversion Prevention Cell’ will be formed in all medical and dental colleges of UP, strict order of Governor Anandiben Patel.

Lucknow, June 11. Governor Anandiben Patel has taken strict steps to stop conversion in Uttar Pradesh. Governor and Chancellor Anandiben Patel have given strict instructions to set up a special cell to stop religious conversion in all the medical institutions of the state. The Governor has taken this important step taking seriously the recent cases of alleged conversion in King George’s Medical University (KGMU) and Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS).

  • Preparation to tighten monitoring system

In this order of the Governor, an awareness campaign will be conducted among students, resident doctors and employees. There are orders to keep a vigilant eye on any suspicious activity, ensure a safe and healthy environment in the educational campus, and take immediate action as per rules on the complaints received. Also includes giving information about rules, rights and responsibilities. Following the instructions of the Governor, preparations have been intensified to further tighten the surveillance system in medical institutes across the state.

  • Case of conversion in Lucknow’s KGMU

A case of religious conversion came to light in Lucknow’s King George Medical University (KGMU) in December 2025. The female resident doctor working in the Pathology Department of KGMU had lodged a complaint at the Chowk police station in Lucknow on 23 December 2025. She accused her colleague Dr Rameezuddin Nayak (aka Rameez Malik) of having physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage, blackmailing her with private videos and photos, inducing abortion and forcibly pressurizing her to convert to Islam. According to the victim, the accused was already married and had earlier also married a woman after getting her converted.
