Now PUC investigation will not have to be done every year! Delhi government may bring new rules, lakhs of vehicle owners will get benefits
New Delhi: To control vehicular pollution in Delhi, the government is preparing to make major changes in the rules of pollution check i.e. Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC). After the implementation of the proposed system, the period of PUCC will be decided based on the age of the vehicle and its emission standards. This will provide relief to some vehicle owners, while the rules may become more strict for old vehicles.
BS-6 vehicles can get big relief
According to the new scheme, private vehicles up to six years old with BS-6 standards will not be required to undergo pollution test every year. Such vehicle owners may have to renew PUCC once in three years. Whereas for vehicles 6 to 10 years old, annual inspection may be mandatory.
The government believes that vehicles with BS-6 technology emit relatively less pollution, hence there is no need to keep them under regular inspection.
Strictness will increase on old vehicles
Under the proposed rules, vehicles older than 10 years may have to undergo pollution tests every six months. There is a possibility of the rules being made more stringent for BS-4 and older vehicles. PUCC can be made mandatory every three months for BS-3 or older vehicles.
Separate arrangements for commercial vehicles also
The government is considering implementing a new system for commercial vehicles also. BS-6 commercial vehicles up to six years old may have to undergo PUCC every two years, while annual inspection may be mandatory for vehicles older than this.
Fuel will not be available without PUCC
Delhi government has already indicated that in future petrol or diesel will not be supplied to vehicles without valid PUCC. The aim of the government is to identify polluting vehicles and control them in time.
Preparation to control pollution
In view of the increasing air pollution in Delhi, the government is taking many new steps. Additional measures will also be implemented if air quality deteriorates during winter. It is believed that the implementation of the new PUCC rules will further strengthen the pollution control campaign and will help in achieving the goal of clean air.
