NPCI New Rules: NPCI has instructed all banks and UPI apps to hide the mobile number of customers instead of showing it completely. This decision was taken because recently many people had complained about their identity.
NPCI New Rules: National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is making new preparations to make digital payments in the country more secure than before. This organization running the UPI system is working together with banks and UPI apps under the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) law. Its main objective is to better protect customers’ private information, such as mobile number and name, during UPI transactions.
What is the new rule?
NPCI has instructed all banks and UPI apps to hide the customers’ mobile numbers instead of showing them in full. This decision was taken because recently many people had complained about their identity. Time has been given till September 4 to implement this new system.
Full number will not be visible after payment
After the implementation of the new rules, while making payment through UPI, the other person will not be able to see your complete mobile number. Instead, only the last four digits of the mobile number will be visible. Not only this, even after completing the payment by scanning the QR code, the customer’s complete mobile number will not be visible on the app.
Promote Username based UPI ID
NPCI has also asked UPI apps to promote Username based UPI ID instead of mobile number based UPI ID. At present, most people use their mobile number as UPI ID, but now more emphasis will be given on choosing Username by default in apps.
