Desk: Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has expressed disagreement with Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates' suggestion of a robot tax. Gates believes that human jobs may be reduced due to AI and robots, hence additional taxes should be imposed on companies. Huang says that AI can create more jobs overall in the future. However, he admitted that it will definitely affect many existing jobs.
Bill Gates believes that because of AI and robots, companies can increasingly use machines instead of humans. If the jobs of a large number of people are affected due to this, the tax money received by the government may also reduce. According to Gates, by imposing tax on robots, the pace of change from human labor to machines can be slowed down and money can be raised for retraining of employees and social security.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said he is not against the tax and believes that productive individuals and companies can contribute to society and the economy through taxes. However, he does not consider imposing a separate tax on robots as the right approach. Huang said that there can be discussion on how to distribute the huge economic wealth created by AI, but he does not see a robot tax as the right solution.
Huang appeared quite positive about the impact of AI on employment. He believes that AI can create new jobs overall, although many existing jobs will definitely change. According to him, higher productivity does not necessarily mean that companies should reduce the number of their employees. Companies can use the increased profits to expand business and explore new opportunities. Huang sees the coming times as a period of industrial development again, in which along with people working in offices, skilled technical workers will also play an important role.
