Nvidia has stated that the RTX 5090 graphics card is not discontinued, countering reports of its winding down. However, an unnamed board partner has revealed concerns about order placements, casting doubt on the card’s status.

German overclocker der8auer reached out to Nvidia regarding rumors of a phase-out of the RTX 5090. Nvidia responded that the card has “definitely” not been discontinued, attributing current stock issues to supply-chain constraints.

Despite this reassurance, the board partner indicated a different reality. While Nvidia has not formally informed partners of the RTX 5090 reaching its end-of-life, it reportedly cannot order the necessary GB202 GPU or 32GB of GDDR7 memory for new production. The partner further mentioned it cannot even place backorders, a departure from past practices where orders could remain in the system until fulfilled.

Additional evidence of supply troubles includes reports from a cooler manufacturer, which stated some partners have significantly cut their projections for RTX 5090 heatsink orders for the first quarter of 2027. There have been no heatsink orders for the second quarter of 2027.

While Nvidia maintains the RTX 5090 is still in production, the combination of unfulfillable orders and decreasing production planning suggests challenges ahead for potential buyers.

In the broader market, prices for related graphics cards are climbing. The wholesale price of the RTX 5080 has surged in China, with the card now retailing for between $2,171 and $2,246. The price increases extend beyond the RTX 5080, indicating a troubling trend for consumers looking to upgrade their hardware, with prices rising significantly for models across the board.
