Apart from Shatkavir Duckett, the English reached 387 runs due to the efforts of Bethel and Root.
England, which won the toss of the coin, under the leadership of century-winning opener Ben Duckett (141 runs, 135 balls, one six, 18 fours), scored a mountain-like score of 387 runs for three wickets with the help of heavy innings by Jacob Bethel (91 runs, 93 balls, two sixes, 11 fours) and Joe Root (74 runs, 48 balls, nine fours). This was also England’s highest ODI score against India.

Rohit replied with a century, Gill and Kohli also stood firm, but victory remained far away.
In front of the difficult target of 388 runs, ‘Hitman’ Rohit Sharma responded well to the English bowlers and scored the 34th century of his ODI career (138 runs, 110 balls, five sixes, 17 fours). Captain Shubman Gill (77 runs, 84 balls, one six, 10 fours) also looked in good form while scoring his 20th fifty, while Virat Kohli scored 50 or more runs for the 134th time (74 runs, 60 balls, three sixes, four fours). But despite all these efforts, victory remained away from India as the visitors’ innings came to a halt at 360 runs for seven wickets.

England won its first ODI series against India since 2018
With this, India had to lose its third consecutive series on the UK tour. Firstly, Ireland achieved a historic 2-0 win in the two-match T20 series against the two-time T20 World Cup champions. After that, England won the five-match T20 series 4-0 and now Gill and Company had to face defeat in the one-day series. Interestingly, England has won an ODI series against India for the first time since 2018 and this is only their eighth win overall in 22 attempts.

In terms of records, England’s score of 387 runs for three wickets is now the highest ‘List A’ score at Lord’s. The foundation for this was laid by Ben Duckett’s brilliant century, which was the highest individual score in ODIs by a player at this ground and his fourth century in this format.

At the same time, there was a partnership of 192 runs in 181 balls for the first wicket between Duckett and ‘Player of the Maid’ Bethel, which was also the biggest partnership for any wicket against India. It was also the first century partnership between England’s top two batsmen since Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow’s 115-run partnership against Bangladesh in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
