The regional party alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government has harmed the education system for future generations by publishing flawed textbooks from Class 1 to Class 8 under the National Education Policy (NEP-2020).
The party said it has found more than 1,678 errors in the textbooks published under NEP-2020. It claimed that despite being aware of the errors, the state government distributed textbooks to students.
BJD leaders alleged that there were many errors in the books which were harming the education of children. There has been a scam of Rs 380 crore in the publishing of textbooks. Departmental minister Nityanand Gond is also involved in this corruption. Despite demands for his resignation, the minister has not left his post, hence the movement has intensified.
BJD said these errors are a matter of serious concern as students’ examinations approach. He raised the question of how students would prepare for exams with flawed textbooks. She said lower-level employees were being arrested, while senior officials were being acquitted.
The opposition party claimed that students have not yet received error-free textbooks. The BJP government is playing with the future of the students of the state through its destructive education system.
According to the party, its youth and student organizations are staging a round-the-clock protest in front of the Odisha Assembly over the issue. BJD MLAs also joined the protest when the assembly was adjourned following uproar by the opposition over the textbook issue. They walked from the assembly to the protest site and protested in the rain.
