The journey of becoming a millionaire from a modest salary

Investigation has revealed that Baikunthnath Behera started his career as a Junior Engineer (JE) in the year 1999 with a monthly salary of just Rs 6,000. But in the last few years, he has built an empire through black money. Vigilance raids have so far revealed 5 multi-storey luxurious houses in posh areas of Bhubaneswar like Chandrashekharpur, Neeladri Vihar and Shailashree Vihar.

Network of lands from Bhubaneswar to Jajpur

The engineer had invested heavily not only in houses but also in lands. During the raid, officials recovered a total of 13 valuable plot documents at different prime locations including Bhubaneswar, Dharamshala and Baripada. The current market value of these lands is being estimated in crores.

Apart from this huge wealth, the vigilance team has recovered huge amount of gold jewelery and two gold idols during the search of Chandrashekharpur residence, while cash worth ₹2.66 lakh has been recovered separately. The biggest revelation came when his two bank lockers located in Axis Bank and Union Bank of India were opened, from where around Rs 2 crore cash was recovered.

Simultaneous raid on relatives’ places also

To expose this entire game, a large team of Vigilance, including 2 ASP, 5 DSP and 6 Inspectors, has simultaneously raided the houses of Behera’s relatives in Mayurbhanj and Jajpur. The investigating agencies suspect that the engineer has spent a large part of his black money in benami properties in the name of his relatives. At present, counting of notes and physical evaluation of seized documents is going on, after which further strict legal action will be taken.
