There are many sweets in India which have their own identity and taste. Mathura Peda is also included in such famous sweets. Due to their connection with Mathura, the city of Lord Krishna, there is a special demand for these trees on the occasion of Janmashtami. If this time it is not possible to go to Mathura and bring Peda, then there is no need to worry. You can prepare delicious Mathura style pedas at home.
Ingredients for making Mathura Peda
To make pedas at home, you will need 500 grams of mawa or khoya, 150 grams of boora or powdered sugar, half teaspoon cardamom powder, 1 to 2 teaspoons of ghee, 1 to 2 teaspoons of milk as per requirement and chopped pistachios or almonds for garnishing.
How to prepare Mathura Peda?
First of all, take a heavy bottomed pan and heat some ghee in it. Now add mawa to it and start frying it on low flame. Keep stirring the mawa continuously, so that it does not stick to the bottom of the pan and gets roasted evenly. To bring out the real taste of Mathura trees, it is very important to roast the mawa properly on low flame.
When the mawa changes its color to light golden and starts giving off a pleasant aroma, reduce the flame of the gas. Now add sugar or powdered sugar in it and mix well. After this add cardamom powder and cook the mixture for some more time. If the mixture seems too dry then you can add some milk as per requirement.
After the mixture is cooked well, turn off the gas and let it cool down a little. Keep in mind that the mixture should not cool completely, but should remain lukewarm enough that pedas can be easily made with hands. Now apply some ghee on your hands, take small balls of the mixture, give them a round shape and flatten them slightly.
Decorate the prepared trees by placing chopped pistachios or almonds on them. If you want, you can also add a little boora on top. In this way, delicious Mathura Peda will be prepared at home.
This tip will save a lot of time
If you want to make pedas quickly then there is no need to prepare mawa at home. Good quality fresh khoya can be bought from the market. This will reduce the preparation time considerably. However, to improve the taste of the tree, do not forget to roast the mawa thoroughly on low flame.
On the day of Janmashtami, offer these trees to Lord Krishna and eat them as Prasad with the family. The taste of fresh home-made Mathura style trees will further enhance the sweetness of the festival.
