Ola Electric: Ola Electric will now sell batteries to other companies also, a big step in India’s EV industry
Ola Electric: India’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer Ola Electric is now preparing to make batteries not only for its electric scooters but also for other automobile companies. The company is in talks with several domestic and foreign automakers to supply lithium-ion cells and battery packs to be manufactured at its Krishnagiri Gigafactory.
India’s only operational Gigafactory
Bengaluru-based Ola Electric is currently operating India’s only operational Gigafactory. Its current generation capacity is 6 gigawatt-hours (GWh). The company has started large-scale production of 4680-format indigenous ‘Bharat Cell’ through its subsidiary ‘Ola Cell Technologies’. Ola, which manufactures batteries on this technology and scale, has joined the select companies in the world after Tesla.
Production capacity will increase rapidly
The company is rapidly increasing its battery production capacity. It is estimated that this capacity will reach 12 GWh by July 2027 and 20 GWh by the end of FY 2028. According to reports, about 6.5 GWh of the total future capacity will be reserved to supply batteries to other auto companies.
Investment of Rs 5,300 crore
In February 2026, Ola Electric had informed that the company has invested about Rs 5,300 crore in manufacturing, research and development and battery technology. The company now wants to establish itself not only as an EV manufacturer but also as a battery supplier and energy storage company.
India’s EV ecosystem will benefit
Ola also launched ‘Ola Shakti’ home energy storage system in October 2025. Experts believe that if the company is successful in creating a strong supply chain, it can prove to be a game-changer for India’s EV and energy storage industry and will help in reducing dependence on foreign battery imports.
