Oman Iran Meeting: Iran’s delegation reached Oman, major discussion took place on the security of ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaid welcomed Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and his delegation in Muscat. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was also present during this tour. This high-level meeting took place on Monday, June 22, 2026, in which further strengthening of relations between the two countries was discussed.
During this meeting, special attention was paid to increasing cooperation in the fields of politics, trade and tourism. Both Oman and Iran stressed that it is very important to maintain peace and reduce tensions in the current times. The main focus of the meeting was the management of the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring the safety of ships in the international shipping lane.
Oman’s Foreign Ministry said both countries called for maintaining regional security and using proactive diplomacy to ensure unhindered movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf said the purpose of the visit is to establish coordination between Muscat and Tehran for the management of this strategic waterway.
The visit came at a time when the Iranian delegation held 18-hour long talks with the US in Switzerland. Pakistan and Qatar played the role of mediator in this conversation. In this discussion held in Switzerland, issues related to regional security, maritime transit and Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) were discussed.
According to US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant, Iran has promised to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and safe for shipping and to allow IAEA inspectors into the country. However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai has denied this. He said that no new agreement has been reached on the nuclear issue and cooperation will continue as per the existing procedures.
As part of this agreement, the US Treasury Department has issued a temporary license of 60 days. This will allow the production, delivery and sale of Iranian oil. Earlier also on 5 April 2026, talks were held between Oman and Iran regarding the safe movement of ships.
