A representative of the Trang Tien ice cream brand said the 35 Trang Tien outlet had “fulfilled its historic mission” after 68 years of serving generations of customers.
The closure is part of a network development plan to create more modern spaces and improve the customer experience. The brand has already opened other outlets nearby at 18 Hang Bai, 44 Trang Tien and 18 Ngo Quyen.
“We hope customers will take the time to cherish their final memories here,” the representative said, adding that visitor numbers had been “huge” since the closure was announced on Sept. 4.

On Sept. 7, long lines began forming from 7 p.m., stretching from the sidewalk onto the street. As the shop has limited seating, most customers stood along the sidewalk to enjoy their ice-cream after making their purchases.
Pham Thi Duc, 60, said she had been eating ice-cream at 35 Trang Tien since her middle-school days.
“I feel a sense of loss seeing the place that holds the memories of my youth about to disappear,” she said.
For younger customers, the shop offers an irreplaceable street-side experience.
Nguyen Tu Anh, a 21-year-old student, said that despite the wide range of ice cream brands available today, she still enjoys the traditional flavors served here, including cyoung green rice, mung bean and coconut milk.
A vendor at the shop said the number of customers had doubled since the closure announcement, keeping staff constantly busy.
Opened in 1958, the ice cream shop has long been popular with both locals and international visitors.
In 2023, TasteAtlas experts included it on their list of the world’s “100 Legendary Ice Cream Parlors,” recognizing it as part of Hanoi’s culinary heritage.
