Online safety of teenagers gets new strength Meta AI will identify dangerous conversations and send information to parents

New Delhi . Meta has taken an important step amid the ever-increasing concerns regarding the safety of children and adolescents in the digital world. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has introduced a new AI-based safety feature that aims to provide timely help to teenagers in serious situations like mental crisis and suicidal thoughts. This feature will be activated specifically in cases when a teen interacts with the Meta AI chatbot on sensitive topics like suicide or self-harm. Upon receiving such signals, the system will identify the potential risk and send an alert to the parents so that they can communicate with the child in time and get the necessary help.

According to Meta, this new feature is based on modern artificial intelligence technology that analyzes the words used during chat and conversation patterns. If the system indicates that the teen is under mental stress or is talking about self-harm, it will send a notification to the parents through the Parental Supervision account. The purpose of this alert is not only to warn but also to make the parents understand how to talk to the child sensitively in such a situation and how to seek help from experts if needed.

The company has clarified that while preparing this feature, full care has been taken of the privacy of children. Parents will not be shown the entire chat but will only be provided information about potential risks and necessary guidance. Meta says that its priority is to maintain a balance between security and privacy so that the trust of the teenagers is maintained and the family can take action in time in case of any serious situation.

In fact, in the last few years, many such cases have come to light in which teenagers considered AI chatbots as their close companions and talked openly on topics like mental stress, suicide or self-harm. These incidents have created new challenges for technology companies. Keeping this in view, Meta has developed this security feature so that AI can not only be a medium of conversation but can also become an important means of security when needed.

  • Currently, this feature has been launched for families using Instagram Parental Supervision in America, Britain, Canada and Australia. The company says that by the end of the year it will be made available in other countries also in a phased manner. Along with this, additional security measures are also being added to Meta AI that will help in keeping teenagers away from sensitive and harmful content.

Experts believe that responsible use of technology can give a new direction to the safety of children, but the success of any AI system also depends on the active participation of parents. If a change is seen in a child’s behavior or any such alert is received, then instead of scolding him, there is a need to understand and provide emotional support. This new feature of Meta has been developed with this thinking so that the safety of children on digital platforms can be made stronger than before.
