Desk. The T20 series between India and Zimbabwe is going to start. The first match of the three-match series will be played a few hours from now i.e. on July 23. Its preparation has started. Meanwhile, it has to be kept in mind that Team India cannot underestimate Zimbabwe under any circumstances. Even though Team India has defeated Zimbabwe many times before, it has happened thrice when Zimbabwe has succeeded in defeating the Indian team. Before this, the last time it had to face defeat was under the captaincy of Shubman Gill.
India vs Zimbabwe series is a testing time for Team India and especially for captain Shreyas Iyer. India and Zimbabwe have faced each other 14 times in T20 Internationals so far. Out of these, Zimbabwe has won three times, while Team India has won 11 times. Zimbabwe defeated Team India for the first time in 2015. Then the match was held in Harare and the Indian team lost by 10 runs. After this, Zimbabwe again won in the year 2016. The difference in that match was only two runs.
In 2014, when Team India won the T20 World Cup title under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, there was a tour of Zimbabwe immediately after that. Shubman Gill was made the captain for that series. The world champion team had lost the first match by 13 runs and Team India’s consecutive winning streak was also broken. However, Team India later made a comeback and captured the series by winning four matches.
Before this, the last time there was a clash between India and Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup of 2026, when India had won by 72 runs. Now there is a three-match series. This will be a tough and big test for Shreyas Iyer. Under the captaincy of Shreyas, Team India has played seven T20 matches so far, but has not won yet. Even against a team considered weak like Ireland, Shreyas’s team was defeated. In such a situation, it would be a big mistake to underestimate Zimbabwe. It would not be surprising if the team which has won thrice, wins for the fourth time also. As we already told you that the matches of the series will start at 4:30 pm Indian time, take special care of this, otherwise you may miss the match.
