Meteorological Department issued orange alert for the remaining districts
Dehradun. Due to continuous heavy rains at various places in Uttarakhand, many roads were closed due to landslides. Due to the rain, rivers and streams were in spate while the Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued 'Orange Alert' warning of heavy to very heavy rain in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri and Udham Singh Nagar districts. The administration is fully alert in view of the 'Yellow Alert' issued in the remaining districts. In view of the forecast of heavy rain, schools from classes 1 to 12 were closed in Dehradun.
Many roads in the state were closed due to landslides due to rain, efforts are on to open them. According to officials, Yamunotri National Highway was blocked due to debris near Durbil and Jangalchatti in Uttarkashi district. Apart from this, debris entered the Kalpeshwar temple complex located in Chamoli district during heavy rains. However, no casualties were reported in the incident.
On the other hand, due to continuous rains, the rising water level of rivers and streams in the state is becoming a threat to the people, where eight people including six students got trapped in two incidents in Dehradun and Rishikesh area. However, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) evacuated them safely.
According to the information received from SDRF, at around 9.30 pm on Monday night in Rishikesh, information about a Max vehicle overturning in the rain-swollen Bean River was received, after which rescue operations were immediately reached on the spot and started.
It said that after a lot of efforts, one person trapped inside the vehicle was pulled out safely but the other person remained trapped inside the vehicle and was swept away for some distance with the strong current of the river, making the rescue operation extremely challenging. After this, another team of SDRF was called to the spot, with the coordinated efforts of which the person was also taken out. Both persons have been sent to the hospital for treatment.
According to SDRF, the second incident took place in Than village of Dehradun, where half a dozen students of a private university, who had gone for 'trekking' in the forest, got stuck there on their return due to the increased water level of Swarna river due to heavy rains. As soon as the information was received, an SDRF team from Dakpathar walked about six kilometers to reach the students and took everyone out safely.
SDRF commander Arpan Yaduvanshi appealed to the people to take special precautions during the rainy season and said that the water level of rivers and drains can rise suddenly, hence tourists and students should avoid going to the river banks during the rains and plan 'trekking' or other activities only after seeing the weather forecast.
