Orange alert issued for Delhi-Noida, warning of rain and dust storm

New Delhi: The weather has shown signs of sudden change in many parts of North India including Delhi-NCR. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Delhi and Noida, while a red alert has been declared in Gurugram in view of the severe weather conditions.

What warning did the department give?

The department has warned that there is a possibility of strong thunderstorm, lightning, heavy rain and hailstorm in some areas in the evening. Along with this, strong winds can blow at a speed of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour.

According to the Meteorological Department, this change coming in Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas can bring relief after the scorching heat of recent days. The temperature was remaining between 44 to 46 degrees Celsius for the last several days. There was no respite from the heat even at night and in some areas the minimum temperature was recorded above 32 degrees Celsius, which is considered unusual for May. Due to the continuously increasing heat, the demand for electricity had also reached record levels and the daily life of the people was being affected.

Meteorologist Navdeep Dahiya and Dr. Pradeep have warned about the dust storm. He said that in some areas the wind speed may be so high that trees may be uprooted. Electric poles may fall and roofs may blow away.

Meteorologists say that a strong weather system active near the Rajasthan-Haryana border is the reason for this change. This system is moving towards the east and due to its effect, there may be heavy rains followed by dust storm. In satellite images, dense clouds have been seen extending from Ganganagar to New Delhi and Agra. Such pre-monsoon storms are considered normal in late May, but this time due to the prolonged scorching heat, its impact will be felt more.

According to IMD, the maximum impact can be seen in Delhi-NCR between 7:30 pm and 11 pm. During this period, visibility may be reduced due to dust blowing with strong winds. People have been advised to keep the windows of their houses closed, secure open belongings and avoid unnecessary travel.

When will the storm affect Haryana?

The impact of the storm in Haryana may start from the evening and continue till night, while the possibility of heavy rain and storm has been predicted in Punjab and Chandigarh also. The weather may also worsen in the western and south-western parts of Uttar Pradesh from evening till late night.

Although this change is not a sign of complete end of summer, it will definitely provide relief to people from the scorching heat for some time. Strong winds and rain can make the weather pleasant to some extent in the coming days.
