Outcry over water crisis in Munger: Villagers in CM Samrat Chaudhary’s home area thirsty, forced to drink river water
Munger. The tap water scheme has come to a complete standstill for the last one month in Sonarva village of Bhim Dam under Haveli Kharagpur block of the district. Amidst the scorching heat and humidity, the village people are facing a lot of trouble for pure drinking water. The situation is so bad that villagers are forced to quench their thirst by fetching river water.
There is deep anger among the villagers as the problem has not been resolved despite complaining to the department several times. Due to this, people also protested in front of the water tank on Thursday.
Population of around 300 is in water crisis-
Sonarva village, located in ward number 12 of Gangta Panchayat, which falls in the tourist destination Bhim Dam area, has a population of about 300. Villagers say that the tap water scheme has been completely closed for the last one month, due to which the drinking water crisis has become serious.
Problems increased in summer, people forced to drink river water-
Amidst the scorching sun and humid heat, people are facing a lot of problems for water. Villagers say that under compulsion they are bringing water from Bhim Dam river for domestic use.
Protest by villagers-
The villagers became angry as the problem persisted and no solution was found. On Thursday, a large number of people demonstrated in front of the water tank and demanded restoration of water supply as soon as possible.
The villagers allege that despite complaining several times, the department has not taken any concrete steps till now.
Ward member raised questions-
Ward member Santan Kumar Singh said that a complaint has been lodged with DCC regarding the tap-water scheme, but the problem has not been resolved yet.
He said that if this is the situation in the Chief Minister’s home assembly constituency only, then the situation in other areas can be estimated.
The department assured a quick solution.
SDO of Public Health Engineering Department, Tapeshwar Safi said that a solar panel based tap water scheme is being operated in Sonarva village, in which there has been a technical fault.
He said that technicians have been called from Ranchi for repairs and within a day or two the problem will be resolved and water supply will be restored.
