Pakistan Cricket Team: Every day one new change is being seen in the Pakistan cricket team. The Pakistan team seems to be continuously struggling inside and outside the field. The condition of Pakistan is continuously getting worse. Apart from the PCB, perhaps no one knows when who should be made the captain of the Pakistan team. In the last 3 years, Pakistan has seen 8 different captains in T20. The thing to note is that during this period, such players have also been given the captaincy again, who had been removed earlier.
In cricket, it is rarely seen in any team that a player who is removed from the captaincy is given the command again, but something similar is being seen in the Pakistan team.
The series of changes in captaincy started from ODI World 2023
In Pakistan cricket, the change of captains in the T20 team started after the 2023 ODI World Cup played hosted by India. Babar Azam took command of the team during that tournament. The team was very disappointing under his captaincy and as a result the team had to be eliminated from the group stage itself. After the shameful defeat in the World Cup, Babar Azam had resigned from the captaincy of all three formats and from here the series of changes in captaincy started.
8 captains changed in 3 years
After this, Shaheen Afridi was appointed as the new T20 captain in November 2023. However, he could not handle the captaincy for long. He left the captaincy in March 2024. After this, PCB once again made Babar Azam the captain of the T20 team before the T20 World Cup 2024. However, Pakistan’s performance in this tournament too was not special, due to which Babar had to face a lot of criticism. In such a situation, he again left the captaincy. After this, before the March 2025 Asia Cup, PCB expressed confidence in Salman Ali Aga.
But he too could not do anything special under his captaincy. After this, the board also expressed confidence in him for the T20 World Cup 2026, but due to Pakistan’s disappointing performance, in October 2026, he was not only shown the way out of the team but was also stripped of the captaincy.
After Salman Ali Aga, now PCB has expressed confidence in young player Sahibzada Farhan and appointed him the new T20 captain. It was under Farhan’s captaincy that the Pakistan cricket team won the silver medal in the Asian Games. Now it will be interesting to see how long the PCB continues to have faith in Farhan.
