Pakistan surrounded by poverty and protests! Amidst increasing anger in PoK, Asim Munir again raised the issue of Kashmir.
New Delhi: Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir has once again given an anti-India statement regarding Kashmir. He transferred Kashmir to Pakistan "jugular vein" That is, it was described as the most important vein. This statement has come at a time when protests against the Pakistan government are increasing in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and local people are taking to the streets with their demands.
Kashmir issue raised in Corps Commanders Conference
Asim Munir presided over the 276th Corps Commanders Conference held at Army Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi. After the meeting, Pakistan Army’s media wing ISPR issued a statement accusing India of human rights violations and changing the population balance in Jammu and Kashmir. Also described Kashmir as an important issue for Pakistan.
Increasing opposition in PoK
On the other hand, the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir has given an ultimatum to Pakistan and the local administration to fulfill its demands by July 8. The organization says that if the demands are not met within the stipulated time, a major agitation will be announced. An appeal has also been made to the supporters to join the protest in a peaceful and organized manner.
Discussion on security and terrorism also
Pakistan’s internal security and military preparedness were also reviewed in the meeting. ISPR claimed that terrorist groups active against Pakistan are operating from the border areas. The army reiterated its commitment to continue anti-terrorism operations and accused India of hybrid warfare and spreading misinformation. Also reiterated its old stand regarding Indus Water Treaty.
Questions arising on the statement
To divert attention from the increasing protests and people’s resentment in PoK, the issue of Kashmir has once again been raised by Pakistan. He says that amid the economic crisis and local discontent, such statements are being seen as an attempt to reduce domestic pressure.
