Pakistan Cricket Team: The stir in Pakistan cricket regarding ICC ODI World Cup 2027 has intensified. With the aim of strengthening the team, Pakistan Cricket Board has prepared a big plan. Under this, Pakistan is planning to organize a high-profile tri-ODI series with England and Sri Lanka at home. This series is being seen as an important preparation before the World Cup.
Tri series will provide strength
According to reports, this tri-series can be held later this year in the October-November or December-January window. The England and Wales Cricket Board has given in-principle approval to this proposal, while Sri Lanka is already ready to participate in it. The format of this series will be short but effective, where all three teams will play one match each against each other and the top-2 teams will face off in the final. It is possible to organize it after Sri Lanka’s Pakistan Test series.
New strategy after bad record
Pakistan’s recent ODI record has been a matter of concern. The team has not been able to reach the semi-finals of any World Cup since 2011 and had an early exit in 2019 and 2023 also due to disappointing performances. Keeping this in view, the board is now working on a new strategy. According to reports, the PCB management will hold a meeting with white-ball head coach Mike Hesson and ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi in June to chalk out future plans.
Focus on young players
Pakistan team is currently going through a phase of change. Recently, six new players were given a chance on the Bangladesh tour, which makes it clear that the team is moving forward keeping the future in mind. Captain Shaheen Afridi is also in favor of giving opportunities to young talent. Apart from this, the upcoming tour of Australia team to Pakistan will also prove to be important for the team, where a three-match ODI series will be played.

According to reports, the tri-series matches can be held in Lahore and Karachi, although the official schedule is yet to be announced. The 2027 ODI World Cup will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. In such a situation, Pakistan is already working towards making a balanced team. Even before this, the board had organized a tri-series to prepare for the T20 World Cup, which was beneficial for the team. Now it remains to be seen how much success this new strategy can bring to Pakistan in big tournaments.
