Pakistan will not join Abraham Accords, Khawaja Asif gives shock to Trump
Islamabad/Washington: Pakistan has completely rejected the heavy diplomatic pressure being put by US President Donald Trump regarding the ‘Abraham Accords’ made to establish peace in the Middle East. According to the latest reports of Pakistani media, the country’s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has made it clear in a TV interview that Islamabad will not be a part of or support any such agreement which goes against the ‘fundamental ideologies’ of Pakistan.
Trump’s appeal and Pakistan’s stance
In fact, US President Donald Trump had outlined a historic regional agreement for the Middle East by sharing a detailed post on the social media platform ‘Truth Social’. Trump had claimed that talks with Iran were moving in a positive direction. Under this big regional agreement, Trump had appealed to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and Bahrain as well as Pakistan to sign the Abraham Accords together. He also warned that if this agreement is not reached, the region could again be engulfed in a major war. Trump had also cited discussions in this regard with many global leaders including Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir.
Reference to Israel and passport policy
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif took a very strict stance on this diplomatic gesture and pressure from Trump in an interview given to Pakistani broadcaster ‘Sama TV’. Raising serious questions on Israel’s credibility, he said, “How can you sit with people whose words cannot be trusted even for a day?” Reiterating Islamabad’s old stand, Asif also mentioned its passport policy. He proudly said that Pakistan is the only country in the world which does not even have the name of Israel clearly mentioned on its passport, which shows that we do not recognize that Jewish state.
