Parents will go on foreign tour with 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, BCCI approved

New Delhi: BCCI has given a big relief to 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has emerged as a new star in Indian cricket. Vaibhav will be able to accompany his parents on the upcoming white-ball tour of Ireland and England. Confirming this decision, the board said that it will itself bear the expenses of this arrangement, because the young player has to play seven matches in these two countries.

BCCI Secretary gave the reason

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, while talking to PTI, said that getting a 14-15 year old player in the senior national team happens once in decades. We have got a talent like Vaibhav after many years.

Giving the example of Sachin Tendulkar, he said that when a player joins the senior team at such a young age, he has to face many challenges. All other players in the team are above 18 years of age and the support staff are also adults. It was important to make a child feel comfortable in such an environment, so it was decided to send the parents along.

Saikia described it as a school trip. He said that when a child goes out of school, a senior goes with him. Vaibhav has just left school or is in his final year. With the support of his parents, he will remain mentally strong and will be able to adapt quickly to the team environment.

BCCI considers India’s future player

BCCI believes that Vaibhav will prove to be an important player for Indian cricket for the coming 20-25 years. The board said that it is taking this step not just for now, but keeping the long term plan in mind.

After showing excellent performance for two consecutive seasons in IPL, Vaibhav got a place in the India A team. He represented the country in the 50-over tri-series held in Sri Lanka. Now his first international match is to be played against Ireland in Belfast on 26 June.

Efforts to hone young talent

This decision of BCCI is being seen as an attempt to handle the young talent of India and provide them the right environment. The board wants that Vaibhav can show his game without any mental pressure. By living with parents, they will get a home like environment and they will be able to perform better.
