After resigning from the post of national spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shehzad Poonawala has now openly put the reason behind it before the country. In a recent interview, he cited financial and personal reasons behind leaving the party. During this time, when he was asked a question about rejoining Congress, he also gave an interesting answer to this. However, till the time of writing the news, BJP has not officially accepted his resignation.
Poonawala made a big statement referring to financial constraints and personal needs. While talking to a news channel, he clarified that political parties do not make salaries or regular payments to their workers. Explaining his situation, he said, “I have to pay house rent every month. My landlord will not let me stay for free just because I am the BJP spokesperson. He asks for rent on the 1st of every month. Political parties do not pay money to their workers.”
The reason for resigning was also told openly
Explaining the philosophy behind his resignation, he said, “The job of the BJP is not to support me or any other worker financially. When you join a political movement, it is not a corporate job. You become a worker because you like the ideology of the organization, like a leader or love the organization. All three were completely with me.”
The party leadership had tried to persuade
Poonawala says that he has not taken this step of resigning suddenly. He was continuously thinking about this since the year 2024. He also revealed that when he made up his mind to leave the party and informed the high command, several senior leaders approached him and urged him to stay. He said that he has already honestly informed the party leadership about the practical challenges he is facing.
Unique condition placed on returning to Congress
When he was asked whether he would go back to his old party Congress, he clearly refused. However, sarcastically he also put a condition. He said, “I will join the Congress, but only on one condition—Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra are removed from the party and the Congress apologizes to the country on Nehru's decisions.” Let us tell you that Shehzad Poonawala left Congress and joined BJP in the year 2021.
Will be with BJP and PM Modi on ideology
Talking about future plans, he reiterated that he will always stand with Prime Minister Narendra Modi ideologically. He said, “I am not a prophet like Rahul Gandhi, but I can say with certainty that there has neither been nor will be anyone in this country a greater leader than Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After working as the national spokesperson of the world's largest democratic party, do you think I will join any other party? At present, BJP is the best party in India.”
What was written in the resignation letter?
Referring to his official letter, Poonawalla wrote, “The events of the last few days and the circumstances which I have explained in detail have forced me to stand by my earlier decision.” He further wrote, “As I had said earlier, due to urgent economic and personal circumstances, I am now going to work in the private sector. But wherever possible and in whatever form I can, I will continue to support the vision and work of Prime Minister Modi ji and the BJP.”
