‘Party will decide whether..’, Prashant Kishor turns the question of contesting elections from Bankipur

The politics of Bihar has started heating up regarding the by-election to be held on Bankipur assembly seat of Patna, the capital of Bihar. All the parties have started making their strategy but the biggest question still remains. Will Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishore himself contest the elections? Interestingly, once again he avoided giving a direct answer to this question. Talking to journalists after the Jan Suraj meeting held in Saran, Prashant Kishore said that the Bankipur by-election will not be the election of just one seat, but it will prove to be a referendum of the people on the functioning of the present government.

Prashant Kishore alleged that big promises were made to the public during the elections but now the government is avoiding responding to those promises. He said that promises like giving Rs 10,000 to people, providing assistance of Rs 2 lakh and employment generation on a large scale were made. Prashant further said that now the public wants to know what happened to these announcements and what steps the government is taking towards fulfilling them.

Claim to challenge BJP

Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishore claimed that if anyone can give a real challenge to BJP in Bankipur, it is his party. He said that Congress and RJD have not been successful in defeating BJP on this seat for a long time, whereas Jan Suraj is emerging as a strong option among the public.

When journalists asked him whether he himself would contest elections from Bankipur, he put the ball in the party’s court. Prashant Kishore said that the party will decide the candidate and whatever strategy is necessary to win the elections will be adopted. However, he did not clarify whether he himself was going to be a candidate or not.

Questions to the government on Rabri housing dispute

During the conversation, Prashant Kishore also reacted to the ongoing controversy regarding Rabri Devi’s official residence. He said, ‘This matter is between the government and Rabri Devi but the government should also explain why the Deputy Chief Minister’s residence was included in the Chief Minister’s residence complex. The Chief Minister’s residence is already spread over a large area. Despite this, it is natural to raise questions regarding its expansion. When leaders are given the message of simplicity and accountability, then the government should also explain its decisions.

It is noteworthy that Bankipur Assembly seat has become vacant after BJP leader Nitin Naveen became Rajya Sabha MP. Now the by-election on this seat is being considered not only as a local political contest but also as a sign of the changing political direction of Bihar.

At present, the biggest suspense is whether Prashant Kishor himself will enter the electoral arena or will he put forward a new face, but it is certain that this by-election of Bankipur can prove to give a big political message in the coming days in the politics of Bihar.
