Australian cricket team led by Pat Cummins is set to play a five-match Test series against India in early 2027. This is the first time the Aussies will play five matches on Indian soil since 1979. Former World Test Champions will not compete in any practice match in India ahead of the first Test, which is slated to begin on 21st January 2027.
It has come to light that Australia players will train in conditions that they are expecting to face in India during the tour. It is to be noted that the Aussies, who have a busy home summer season, will finish their four-match Test series against New Zealand on 8th January.
New Zealand tour of Australia schedule
1st Test – 9th to 13th December 2026, Perth
2nd Test – 17th to 21st December 2026, Adelaide
3rd Test – 26th to 30th December 2026, Melbourne
4th Test – 4th to 8th January 2027, Sydney
The Men in Yellow are also set to play a white-ball series against England, which begins in November 2026 with three ODIs and 5 T20I matches. Current WTC table toppers are also set to host Bangladesh in a two-match Test series which begins on 13th August. This is the first Bangladesh tour of Australia in over 23 years. After the tour of India, the Aussies will head back home to play England in a one-off game to mark 150 years of Test cricket in a special Day and Night game in Melbourne.
Australian coach Andrew McDonald reveals reason behind no practice match in India
Speaking to Cricket.co.au, Australia coach Andrew McDonald said, “I feel we have enough time to immerse ourselves in those conditions. There will be no practice game as it is more about the conditions. We have got a few options. We have gone to the UAE previously and also visited Bengaluru during our last tour of India.”
McDonald also added, “Just working through what we would like in terms of managing the players, and other stuff during the series against New Zealand. We get to see where the players are at. We could potentially have some players with different skill sets that we believe can perform in Indian conditions, so it will not necessarily be the squad that plays the Test series against New Zealand.”

Last time the Aussies toured India, they lost the four-match series with a 1-2 margin. Rohit Sharma’s side won the first two games in Nagpur and Delhi before the visitors won the Indore Test match. The final game of the series in Ahmedabad ended in a draw, with Virat Kohli ending his long Test ton drought in the game.
