What happens in the Bunker trailer?
In the official trailer for Bunker, released by Sony Pictures Classics, real-life couple Bardem and Cruz portray spouses whose relationship comes under strain when Miguel’s new commission draws them into a world of wealth, fear, and paranoia.
The trailer opens with Miguel considering a lucrative commission to design an elaborate underground survival bunker for an eccentric tech billionaire. After Miguel accepts the commission, Sofia grows uneasy about the project and begins questioning her husband’s changing values and their 17-year marriage.
Ultimately, the couple gets drawn into an atmosphere of creeping dread, paranoia, and moral compromise. Their unsettling, intrusive neighbor Toby adds to the couple’s growing anxiety.
Patrick Schwarzenegger also stars in the film as Jeremy, alongside the already star-stacked cast. The movie had its world premiere in the main competition of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival in September 2026, where it competed for the Golden Lion. It subsequently screened in Toronto, Zurich, and London.
The film reportedly received a standing ovation lasting 16 minutes and 30 seconds at the Venice Film Festival. It reportedly received the festival’s longest ovation up to that point. It is also in third place for the longest standing ovations, behind Pedro Almodóvar’s The Room Next Door.
Bunker will be released after an awards-qualifying run, which is expected to begin on December 11, 2026.
