Congress leader Pawan Kheda wrote on X Post that out of the 20 tonnes of silver offered at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple, 95 percent of it is said to be worth around Rs 550 crore. Has been found to be fake.

It is not possible that a devotee goes with devotion to see the Mother Goddess and returns there with an offering of fake silver. It is the faith of Hindus to believe like this… https://t.co/2cPCPcXrUg

Pawan Kheda wrote that it is not possible that a devotee goes with devotion to see the Mother Goddess and returns there with an offering of fake silver. To believe like this is an insult to the faith of Hindus. Therefore, it is clear that there has been exchange and misappropriation of silver offerings in the temple. He said that from Ram Mandir to Badrinath and now Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, the story seems to be the same.
He wrote that unfair advantage has been taken of the faith of the devotees. Their donations and offerings have been looted in broad daylight, but the Prime Minister, who takes God’s name at every opportunity and presents himself as God’s incarnation, is still unwilling to utter a word on this grave sin. He said that if he cannot even care about the religion, its faith and its reputation, by invoking which he is sitting on this chair, then he has no right to continue sitting on this chair.
Let us tell you that amidst the controversy of theft of donations in Ram temple of Ayodhya, a court of Jammu and Kashmir has directed the J&K Crime Branch to produce records related to the offerings of “fake silver” worth more than Rs 550 crore made in Mata Vaishno Devi temple.
The court gave this direction during the hearing of a petition in which a demand was made to register an FIR in the case of alleged embezzlement, misappropriation, theft and adulteration of silver offered by devotees in Mata Vaishno Devi temple.
In May, the temple board had sent around 20 tonnes of silver offerings, estimated to be worth Rs 550 crore, to the government mint to be melted and stored. During the process, it was reportedly discovered that the silver sent by the temple board was fake and only 5 per cent of the 20 tonnes turned out to be genuine silver.

Examination of the metal revealed that about 95% of the silver was actually cadmium and iron. Initially it was believed that devotees had unknowingly offered fake silver in the temple. However, lawyer Deepak Sharma, in his complaint to the Crime Branch Inspector General, alleged misappropriation and embezzlement of silver offerings.
In the complaint filed on May 9, Sharma alleged “criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust, embezzlement and manipulation of official records” and sought to register an FIR as well as preserve all records and evidence. Fed up with the alleged inaction of the crime branch, the lawyer approached the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Jammu seeking action and a thorough investigation by the crime branch.
While the crime branch in its status report said that the complaint has been sent to the crime department headquarters in Srinagar for approval and necessary action is being taken, the complainant claims that the crime branch is legally bound to register the FIR and initiate investigation.
The complainant has sought to preserve all records including CCTV footage and records related to collection, storage and transportation of material. They have also sought investigation reports, electronic data and evidence related to the investigation and melting of silver offerings. After hearing the case, the Court directed the Investigating Officer (IO) of the Crime Branch to be present in person with all the records on the next date of hearing, i.e. July 29.
The complainant said he wanted to find out whether genuine offerings made by devotees were altered and stolen, or whether devotees unknowingly purchased fake silver and offered it at the temple. More than 90 lakh devotees visit the cave temple situated on the Trikuta hills in Katra. Many of them offer gold and silver to the temple. “No devotee will ever offer fake silver in a temple. A thorough investigation is needed to expose this huge scam,” the lawyer said.
He said that the estimated value of the silver offered in the temple was around Rs 550 crore, but when adulteration of cheaper metals and cadmium was found in that metal, its value came down to only Rs 30 crore.
