Used to issue notices as Chief Whip, now TMC’s Madan Mitra has joined the rebels.
Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress has suffered a major setback in West Bengal. MLA and party’s Chief Whip Madan Mitra has resigned from the party and joined the rebel group led by Ritabrata Banerjee. Madan Mitra was considered a trusted ally of Mamata Banerjee. Even during the formation of Trinamool Congress, Madan Mitra supported Mamata Banerjee and was a trusted soldier of the party for decades.
A day earlier, the Enforcement Directorate summoned Madan Mitra’s wife and two sons in a money laundering case related to the municipal recruitment scam. The next day i.e. on Wednesday, Madan Mitra distanced himself from Mamata Banerjee and joined the rebel group.
Madan Mitra said, ‘I had suggested to Abhishek Banerjee that he step away for six months or a year. I told him let’s strengthen the party and then you can come back and take your place, but he refused. He (Abhishek) said that I will not leave the party.
