People gathered to buy the mango which was rejected by Japan –
Knews Desk- The sweetness of Indian mangoes is famous all over the world, but this time Japan has given a big blow to the exporters by banning the import of Indian mangoes. Japan has temporarily stopped the shipment of fresh mangoes coming from India after 20 years. This decision has affected the export of popular varieties like Alphonso, Kesar, Langra and Banganapalli.
According to reports, Japanese quarantine officials had found flaws in the fumigation and disinfection process at some treatment plants in India. Following this, Japan refused to accept mangoes with phytosanitary certificates issued after March 2026. Japan says that until operational standards improve, the ban on imports will continue.
Although Japan has banned Indian mangoes, on the other hand, there is a huge demand for Indian mangoes in Singapore. Alphonso and Kesar mangoes are selling rapidly in the supermarkets there and Indian mangoes are getting excellent response from the customers. Exporters say that Japan is not a big market for India, but this decision can affect the global reputation of Indian mangoes. At the same time, some traders also claimed that Japan’s quality checking process has become more strict than necessary.
India is the largest mango producing country in the world and more than 1000 varieties of mangoes are grown here. At present, the government and related agencies are trying to find a solution to the problem by talking to Japan.
