Tezzbuzz Desk- A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. In the petition, questions have been raised regarding alleged irregularities in the voter list and deletion of names of a large number of voters during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Citing 'The Indian Express' report, the petitioner has sought to challenge the decisions, which were allegedly taken without the consent of the other two election commissioners. According to the report, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had filed objections 14 times on some decisions and procedures of the Election Commission in the last 10 months. However, the Election Commission has said after these reports that differing views within the Commission are part of the institutional process and its decisions are taken unanimously.
The petition has also demanded an investigation into the names of about 13 crore voters removed during SIR. The petitioner has demanded the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to find out how the process of removing names took place on such a large scale. As per available data, more than 13 crore names have been removed from the draft voter lists of 30 states and union territories under SIR.
The petition also seeks criminal action against the CEC for alleged statutory violations. Now the hearing on this petition is awaited in the Supreme Court and the court's stance is awaited. The allegations made in the case are still the claims of the petitioner and a judicial decision is yet to be taken on them.
