PIB Fact Check: Often the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) sends messages or emails to people to stay alert about scams. Through these, customers are warned to stay away from any kind of fraud. These days, a claim is being made on social media that a letter is being issued by RBI, in which it is said that to release your pending amount of Rs 1 lakh, the recipient will have to deposit a refundable tax of ₹ 7,500.

According to the Fact Check done by PIB, such claims being made about RBI on social media are completely wrong. This is a fake claim, which is giving misleading information to the people. According to PIB, RBI never asks for money or personal information from common citizens through unsolicited phone calls, emails or messages.
