New Delhi: The holy period of Pitru Paksha has started and there are still about 9 days left for Shraddha Paksha. In Hindu religion, this time is considered the most sacred occasion to show respect and gratitude to our ancestors. It is believed that the Tarpan, Pind Daan and Shraddha rituals performed during these days satisfy the ancestors and they bless their descendants with happiness and prosperity. But if all this is not done as per the rituals, then the ancestors do not get satisfaction. Let us know those important rules related to Shraddha, following which is considered very important.
According to religious beliefs, all the main works related to Shraddha should always be done in the afternoon i.e. in the afternoon. Also, this ritual should be performed on one's personal land or at a holy pilgrimage site.
What things should you pay special attention to in your food?
Use of pure cow's ghee, milk and curd is considered best in Shraddha food. Along with this, barley, peas, Kangni and especially black sesame should be used. It is believed that the more sesame seeds are used, the more fruitful the Shraddha will be, because sesame seeds protect from evil powers. Apart from this, the sacred Kusha grass is also said to have special importance in Shraddha.
If financially possible, it is considered extremely auspicious to use silver utensils during Shraddha and donate silver to Brahmins or the needy. By doing this the ancestors are especially pleased.
Rules for feeding a Brahmin
A day before Shraddha, the Brahmin should be respectfully invited for food. If the deceased ancestor is male, then the food should be offered to a male Brahmin, and if the ancestor was female, then the food should be offered to the Brahmin's wife. Always serve food respectfully with both hands and make the Brahmin sit comfortably on a cushion or blanket. This food should be given only to a worthy Brahmin, and after the food, one must offer Dakshina and clothes as per one's capacity.
Rules related to Panchabali and family
It is considered mandatory to take out separate portions from the Shraddha food for cows, gods, crows, dogs and ants. The rest of the family members should have food only after feeding the Brahmins and these creatures. If sister, son-in-law or nephew live in the same city, then they should also be invited for food. Also, if a hungry person comes to the door on this day, he should not be sent empty-handed and should be fed respectfully.
