India’s Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, visited the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto, Ontario, on May 26, 2026, during his visit to Canada. The visit highlighted the strong cultural, spiritual and people to people connections between India and Canada, especially within the Indo Canadian community.
Shri Goyal was accompanied by Shri Dinesh Patnaik, High Commissioner of India to Canada, Shri Mahaveer Singhvi, Consul General of India in Toronto, and other members of the visiting delegation. The group was welcomed at the Mandir by Pujya Gunsagardas Swami, Head Swami of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto, along with BAPS volunteers and community leaders.
During the visit, the delegation was given a guided tour of the Mandir, where they observed its detailed craftsmanship, traditional Hindu architecture and peaceful spiritual atmosphere. The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir has become one of the most recognized Hindu landmarks in the Greater Toronto Area, serving as both a place of worship and a centre for cultural preservation, community service and spiritual learning.
Shri Goyal and the delegation also took part in the sacred Abhishek ritual, offering prayers before the murti of Shri Nilkanth Varni. They later visited the various sanctums within the Mandir and interacted with devotees, volunteers and community representatives. The minister acknowledged the dedication of the community and praised the volunteers for their commitment to service, faith and cultural values.
Reflecting on the visit, Shri Goyal said the Mandir stands as a symbol of spirituality, harmony, service and shared values. He noted that it reflects the deep cultural and people to people ties that continue to strengthen the India Canada relationship. His remarks also recognized the important role played by the Mandir in bringing together the Indo Canadian community and preserving Indian culture and heritage in Canada.
