The IPL franchises are busy finalising their retention and released player lists ahead of the IPL 2027 auction. They could face a bigger challenge before the mega auction next year. It won’t be easy to retain some of the big names as players are likely to demand more money to play for the franchises. According to Cricbuzz, some of the leading stars in the Indian Premier League want INR 40 crore as a retention fee.
A couple of players have already spoken to their teams about the new condition. There is a possibility of more players following suit, particularly those who are sure of securing bigger contracts if they enter the auction.
The players, who have opted out of retention, were paid a significant amount of money. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer were not retained by Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, and the two were bought by Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings for INR 26.75 crore and INR 27 crore, respectively. The captaincy material gets more money.
