PM Modi reaches New Zealand, welcomed by Laxman at the airport

PM will discuss ways to further strengthen economic, trade and commercial ties with Luxon

Auckland. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached New Zealand on Friday in the last leg of his three-nation tour. During this, he will interact with his counterpart Christopher Luxon and address the people of the Indian community. Modi was welcomed by Laxan at the airport.

In his statement before leaving from New Delhi, the Prime Minister had said that his visit will meaningfully take forward the strong momentum that has gained in India-New Zealand relations after Lakson’s visit to India in March 2025.

Modi had said that his visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand will further strengthen India’s ‘Act East Policy’, ‘Ocean Vision’ as well as its vision towards a free and open Indo-Pacific. During his two-day visit to New Zealand, he will discuss ways to further strengthen economic, trade and commercial ties with Luxen. He will also address the Indian community in the island country.

Modi reached New Zealand after completing a three-day visit to Australia. In Australia, he held a summit with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and both leaders stressed the important role of the bilateral partnership in ensuring a peaceful Indo-Pacific.

During the summit between the two leaders, the emphasis was on enhancing defense ties, especially in the maritime sector. After more than two years of negotiations, an agreement on civil nuclear energy was reached for the commercial supply of uranium from Australia to India to fuel New Delhi’s nuclear power projects. Earlier, Modi was in Indonesia, where he signed 14 agreements to enhance cooperation in critical minerals, maritime security and other key areas.
