Highest civilian honor received in Indonesia, defense cooperation also strengthened
During Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Indonesia, he was honored with the highest civilian honor there. Along with this, an agreement was signed between India and Indonesia for the supply of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. With this agreement, India became the third country after Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam to adopt the BrahMos system. There was also agreement between the two countries on cooperation related to ‘Astra’ air-to-air missile system. This is being considered a sign of increasing international confidence in India’s defense technology.
The way for uranium supply from Australia cleared
During his visit to Australia, the Prime Minister held bilateral talks with his counterpart. After this Australia announced to start supplying uranium for Indian nuclear reactors. This decision is also considered important because despite India’s request in 2008, Australia had refused to export uranium. After the signing of the Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement in 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the process moved forward and now the final administrative hurdles have also been cleared. This is expected to accelerate India’s target of 100 GW nuclear power capacity.
New strategic partnership with New Zealand
Prime Minister Modi announced a new strategic partnership and 2030 roadmap between the two countries amid a traditional Maori Powiri welcome ceremony in Auckland, New Zealand. This roadmap includes important points like maritime security, counter-terrorism cooperation, cyber security, target of increasing bilateral trade to NZ$ 7 billion and logistics cooperation between the Indian Navy and New Zealand Defense Force. After this agreement, Indian Navy ships will be able to receive logistics and technical support at New Zealand ports. It is being seen as an extension of India’s maritime strategy from the Indian Ocean to the South Pacific region.
India’s global role becomes stronger
Experts believe that this tour of three countries has further strengthened India’s diplomatic, strategic and economic position. With defense cooperation, energy security and strategic partnership in the Indo-Pacific region gaining new momentum, India’s global role also appears to be more influential than before.
